Sachia Jo Traving discusses her research on biochemistry of free-living microbes and its implications for the Discover Magazine.

Sachia Jo Traving from Centre for Ocean Life has been interviewed by Jeff Marlow for the Discover Magazine, featuring their recent publication “A model of extracellular enzymes in free-living microbes: which strategy pays off” in the journal of Applied and Environmental Microbiology. In the feature “The promise and pitfalls of extracellular biochemistry” Traving discussed the impact of how marine microbes use enzymes and why the results of the paper should be of interest. The paper casts new light on the dissolved organic matter floating around in the oceans and explains why some of these organic compounds exist for even thousands of years.

Discover Magazine communicates science to a broad public audience. Have a look at their website for other interesting articles.
